Advanced Tracking Under Real-World Conditions
Tactical Mantracking Level III is an advanced, high-performance training program designed for experienced law enforcement trackers operating in complex, high-pressure environments. This course is built to replicate real-world operational demands where speed, accuracy, and tactical awareness must all function simultaneously.
Training shifts almost entirely to field-based scenarios, with minimal classroom instruction, ensuring students are continuously applying tracking principles under realistic conditions. Participants operate in small tactical tracking teams of 1–3 personnel, requiring constant communication, rapid decision-making, and heightened situational awareness while maintaining uninterrupted focus on tracking objectives.
The emphasis is on real-time pursuit, operational tempo, and tactical survivability while tracking a live subject or simulated target.
Prerequisite — Level II Required, No Substitutions
Enrollment in Tactical Mantracking Level III requires prior completion of Tactical Mantracking Level II. This is a strict requirement. No prior training from other schools or institutions is accepted as a substitute for Fernando's Level II curriculum. Officers must complete Tactical Mantracking Level II with Worldwide Trackers before enrolling in Level III. The Level III scenarios assume the specific operational terminology, team discipline, and tactical patterns taught in Level II.
What You Will Learn
Topics covered include:
- Hasty crime scene tracking and footprint evidence recognition
- Small-unit tactical tracking operations (1–3 personnel)
- Lost spoor recovery procedures in dynamic environments
- Rapid tracking from burglary, break-and-entry, and "jump and run" incidents
- Pursuit operations involving fleeing suspects and escaped inmates
- Tracking considerations in human trafficking and smuggling environments
- Rural narcotics investigation tracking applications
- Rapid site assessment and expedited evidence processing
- Urban improvised threat recognition
- Environmental transition tracking (urban to rural to woodland)
- K9 interference, deception, and counter-tracking recognition techniques
Training Environment
Level III is conducted primarily in the field with a strong emphasis on realism, operational pressure, and continuous movement. Students are placed into evolving scenarios that require them to think, move, and track under fatigue, stress, and changing environmental conditions. The goal is to replicate the demands of real-world tracking operations where hesitation or loss of sign can directly impact mission success.
Training challenges:
- Decision-making under pressure
- Team coordination in small-unit formations
- Situational awareness during active pursuit
- Adaptability across multiple terrain types
- Tracking discipline under fatigue and stress
Why the Instructor Matters
Fernando Moreira brings 40+ years of active operational tracking experience to every course, and his instruction reflects current field doctrine rather than legacy curriculum. He is the author of Visual Mantracking for Law Enforcement and SAR and Shadow Disciple, and has trained operators from multiple branches of the U.S. military, federal law enforcement tactical units, and allied defense forces worldwide. Level III scenarios reflect the conditions Fernando has actively tracked under — not reconstructed case studies from secondary sources.
Operational Focus
This course represents the transition from structured tracking to true operational mantracking under field conditions. Students balance speed with precision, maintaining control of the track while continuously assessing risk, terrain, and subject behavior. Every scenario is designed to reflect the realities of law enforcement tracking missions where time and accuracy are critical.
